BASS: Major Lazer ft Amber Coffman & The Roots: Get Free (Live on Jimmy Fallon)

Check it out here.

The mighty Major Lazer finally perform BandsxBass’ tune of 2012 ‘Get Free’ with the help of Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman (who sang the original vocals on the tune) and Dave Longstreth. Oh yeah and The Roots (Fallon’s house band).

We’ve been waiting for ages to hear a decent live version of Get Free, especially after only getting a recorded version when we went to see them at Shepherds Bush Empire last year.

Amber’s tingle inducing vocals work as well live as they do on record and Diplo seems to be loving it, even if he doesn’t appear to be doing a huge amount here.

Props all round! Major Lazer’s second album Free The Universe is out next week and it’s safe to say we’re pretty excited about hearing it.

BASS: Azealia Banks – No Problems

Ever wanted to stand onstage and throw a birthday cake into the crowd? Well Azealia is one step ahead of you, as demonstrated in her latest offering ‘No Problems’ from her upcoming debut album Broke With Expensive Taste.

It’s no 212 (currently on over 48 MILLION views), but it’s bassy, filthy and produced by Machinedrum – just the way we like it. And the video using the clipping mask effect – our new favourite photoshop technique!

The vid for No Problems was also directed by 212 director Rony Alwin. We’re not sure what festival this was filmed at (SXSW?) but it looks fucking fun. Riding a rubber dinghy across a crowd – added to the bucket list.

Watch out for the fun Diplo cameo at the end.

Download the track here.

BASS: DAWN RICHARDS – NORTHERN LIGHTS (REMIX FT EVE)

The mighty Eve drops vocals over Dawn Richards’ new track Northern Lights. This is forward thinking, excellently produced R&B – recommended for listening on headphones to get the full effect of the production.

Take a huge drag, crank it up, lie back and get sexy.

BANDS: PHOENIX – ENTERTAINMENT (BLOOD ORANGE REMIX FT MUTYA KEISHA SIOBHAN)

Not going to lie, I’ve been following the super cool Instagram life of Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange) for a while now. Not only was this due to his many hangs with Solange, Mickey Mouse and overall swag rating of like, A MILLION, but also because during the visual stalking of said profile I noticed he was having several bro-outs with the Sugababes.

Having been a fan of the newly named ‘Mutya Keisha Siobhan’ since the ‘Overload’ days, I was eager (along with the rest of the world) to see what this comeback would bring. Would Heidi be sourly missed? Would Mutya still have the lip piercing? Would Siobhan EVER speak?

All my worries were silenced when a MKS re-work of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Swimming Pools’ surfaced a couple of weeks back, and the three part sugary harmony was still there in all it’s glory. This second installment from the new SB line up is a Blood Orange remix of Phoenix’s ‘Entertainment’ where the girls get all sassy on the vocals. Check it out, and love it.

BASS: POGO – PROP MY SKY

We’ve loved the mysterious Pogo ever since he dropped his joyous Disney-sampling ‘Bloom’ back in 2011. Bizarrely it appears that Pogo still has time to drop banger after banger whilst being exiled from the US. We’ve all heard mashup videos before, perhaps most famously from Cassette Boy, but Pogo is taking is one step further, by vocoding all the vocals and making a genuinely amazing song out of it all. Sounds shit. Is brilliant.

Along with Disney films, Pogo has almost made great mashups of iCarly and Bill Gates.

BASS: SHOLA AMA – BOYFRIEND

After a stint of collaborations with the likes of Toddla T, Wiley and Diplo, Ms. Ama’s first solo single since 2007 comes in the form of sultry R&B ballad ‘Boyfriend’.

Infectious beats provide the perfect backdrop for Ama’s gorgeous vocal, leaving the track simple, understated and in my eyes; a producer’s wet dream. Along with the sexy black & white artwork (and the fact that I’ve had it on repeat for the past two days) I for one can definitely say that Sho, you didn’t fuck this up.

BASS: A$AP Rocky featuring Skrillex & Birdy Nam Nam – Wild For The Night

A$AP Rocky drops his new video for his much hyped collab with Skrillex. The video depicts the two of them as some of City Of God style druglords who are also kind of ninjas as well as rave promoters. Sounds ridiculous, which of course it is, but the tune is a banger and they look like they are having fun so fair dizzle to them.

BASS: ROX – I DON’T BELIEVE (DON DIABLO REMIX)

We’re not 100% what happened to this remix – was it unofficial? Why has it been taken down from all the official channels? It is SUCH A BANGER.

Either way it was one of our fave remixes from 2010 – kick ass vocals from London soul upstart Rox and Dutch remixer extraordinaire Don Diablo results in a total toe tapping 100% bandsxbass approved bangarang.

Don Diablo has recently been remixing for the very awesome UK electro poppers The Other Tribe, including the remix from the rather good track Skirts.

Rox? She appears to have released two albums since this track. We’ll give them a spin and get back if they are any good.

BASS: DUKE DUMONT – NEED U (100%) FEAT. A*M*E

Named by Resident Advisor as ‘the Producer’s Producer’, Duke Dumont has teamed up with 21 year old pop starlet A*M*E for this latest smash. Set for this week’s UK Number 1, the chorus of this will stick in your head for weeks, and we’re not sorry.

Check the accompanied music video where a guy has a mixer stuck in his stomach playing the track on repeat, bearing the burden of strangers pop-locking around him everywhere he goes.

BASS: DEVolution – Good Love (Mistajam Live Session at Maida Vale)

Original here.

Alesso remix here.

Here’s a slamming version of Devolution’s recent single ‘Good Love’ live on BBC Radio 1’s Mistajam show at the famous Maida Vale stuidios in London.

Many talk about what Dubstep actually is these days. It has certainly come a long way from it’s roots in grimy South London raves. In some ways it has become the new pop beat du jour, just as drum and bass did for a time in the 2000s. Pop? Dubstep? Who cares… this track rules and this version is great. It’s certainly better than the insanely cheesy eurodance official video for the track.

Here’s a great video from the Red Bull Music Academy Hashtags project on the subject of dubstep/post-dubstep/whatever.
